Sunset Peak #6

It took a little while to get it in, but we finally bagged number six! We made it to Sunset peak via Big Cottonwood Canyon and Lakes Mary, Martha, and Catherine.  It was around 6 miles and everyone did well.

Making the trip the easy way.

It got a little windy.  Hannah became headless.

The summit! We didn't stay long, it was a little exposed and very windy, but pretty. You can see Mary, Martha, and Catherine Lakes from the top.

Mike at the peak, he wanted to bag this one too (pioneer peak) but the ridge looked a little too exposed for our clan.

He's getting so big.  He figured out how to throw rocks, and that you can't retrieve them from the water after you throw them, unless mom isn't looking.

Mike found a raft and took it for a spin.

Clara tried to make it out to dad on the raft and got stuck.  This fellow hiker we met helped her back to shore.

Great rocks for climbing around Lake Mary.

Clara told me she didn't like this hike right after we summited.  I asked why and she said it was because of the wind.  After spending time at Lake Catherine throwing rocks, making bridges, and rafting and climbing rocks at Lake Mary she changed her mind and was loving this hike.

Our final peak is Mount Olympus.  It's going to be a bugger.  Mike and I don't particularly like going up from Pete's rock, it's hot, it has a LOT of switch backs and it's kind of boring until you get higher up.  But going up the face isn't a great option for our group either, bushwacking when the bush is as high as you is tough.  It will be a tough hike, but so rewarding when you get up there.  We've told they kids we will rope them up for the final scramble (more out of desire to experiment than real need) and they are excited.  Wish us luck.
