Wasatch Wildflowers and Sunset Peak

Posted by Mike

With training for the marathon over yesterday was the first Saturday I wasn't donning my running shoes to get out on a long run.  We decided to hike up to Lakes Mary, Martha, and Catherine and up to sunset peak.
Over breakfast we all gave guesses to how many different types of wildflowers we would see on the hike:

Heidi 12
Mike 15
Clara 16
Hannah 20

Right from the beginning of the hike the flowers were stunning.  We found 52 different wildflowers!

Heidi was a champion and made it all the way to lake Catherine where we enjoyed a loaf of fresh bread (spinach and artichoke) we picked up at the Murray Farmer's Market.

Clara came with me to the top of sunset peak while the others took a break.  The view was spectacular with Timpanogas to the South, Devil's Castle to the Southwest, Superior to the Northwest, and the Uintahs to the East.  Can't help but wonder about trails yet to travel and peaks yet to climb.

On the hike back the kids listened intently as Heidi and I told them the story of the Princess Bride.
