Capital Reef-again

We really love going to Capital Reef.  The drive isn't too long, the campsite is very kid friendly, there are lots of short hikes close to camp, there are orchards and wild life.  As long as the weather works out, its just about perfect.  Back in the day we would scoff at the idea of a campground like this.  We definitely preferred isolation in this great desert and long backpacking trips.  But with kids, toilets and running water are a plus.  Until everyone can hike at least a small distance on their own two feet, so we can carry all the gear, we will be doing things this way.  And it's great.

We had Juniper berry wars...
watch out a Hannah, your a sitting duck.
An epic battle, between father and son.

Stocking up.

We saw lots of wildlife...
Wild turkeys in camp,
as well as deer and marmots that I failed to take pictures of.

Mountain sheep!

We didn't catch any lizards this trip, which is strange, we didn't see that many.  Mike caught one tail, poor lizard.  We did however see a snake that Pat and Mike tried to catch.  They trapped it, and then when Mike tried to pick it up behind the head it struck.  We let him go.
Can you see?  There he goes.

We did a lot of rock hunting.
Showing Grandma his find.
Watching Dad break geodes.
Finding crystals.

Took some silly pictures.  I'm finally figuring out my camera, and was brave enough to take it on a trip. (Please excuse a few blurry photos on this post.)
Clara loves to pose.
See.

Charlotte mostly liked to eat sticks, dirt and rocks.

Hannah had a few silly faces for us.

And some sweet ones too.

We saw some breathtaking views.
Had a snack on the edge of a cliff.

Checked out the water pocket fold.

Amazing colors that I just can't quite seem to capture.

We played in holes.

 Did a little fishing.

Checked out the petroglyphs.

 Took a ride,
with arms soaring in the wind.

Duck's turn to ride.

Dad's turn?

See we did hike a little.
With Pat and Kathy's help, we had one adult per child.  Thanks a million!
We had a great trip.
